Why we love mirrors

Human beings, blessed with self-awareness, have a fascination with mirrors that dates back thousands of years. In recent times the mirror has gone from luxury to common necessity. Today, our own image has become our constant companion through digital devices and mobile phones which have created a new art form–self photography. As a result, more than at any time in world history, we are inundated with our own image.

Yet our own image is fleeting and deceptive especially if we gaze inward and become reflections of ourselves and society when by design we are intended to be reflections of Christ. Is Jesus our mirror or, like Narcissus, have we have fallen in love with our own reflection?
